What is Dandansoy?

Dandansoy is a popular Visayan folksong in the Philippines about a woman who left her lover; however, she is giving him a chance to be with her if he can prove his undying love.

Dandansoy I'm leaving you
I'm going back to the Payao
If ever you hanker for my presence
Just look toward the Payao.

Dandansoy, if you want to follow me
Don't bring anything, not even water
Should you get thirsty in your journey
Just dig a well along the way.

Parish convent, where the priest lives
Municipal Hall, where justice is served
But here is Dansoy who is accused
Accused of falling in love.

Your handkerchief and mine
Bring them to me because I'll compare them
If they match side by side
Then you're my husband, I'm your wife.
